Regretsy'd!

I'm not sure just how many people outside of the crafting community are aware of Regretsy, but I can assure more than enough within it are incredibly aware.

Regretsy, whose tagline is "Where DIY Meets WTF" is a parody of Etsy. Items on Regretsy tend to be reported to them, and due to the popularity of the site even they themselves have pointed out there is a whole lot of WTF to sort through.

What makes it a WTF? The short answer is: whatever makes you wonder why someone a)made the item b)thinks someone would buy the item c) chose to go against their best judgment and share said item with the internet when they should know it's a WTF.

And all on my own steam, I've made it. That's right, this morning I woke up to a Facebook message from my friend over at Dollfoolery proclaiming I'd made it!

Here is the item that people feel was worthy.

Am I upset? No, not one bit. Even bad publicity is good publicity.

Am I surprised? Only mildly. I figured eventually someone would find me and post me. What I really think of the whole situation is - "wow I never saw the item in that light."

The cowl has been likened to scabs, bot flies, and goiters. I thought the whole bot fly thing was so original I nearly went in and changed the name!

Also in the Facebook comments was a remark about what on EARTH was I doing to the peperoni pizza scarf!? The owner and operator of The Neighborhood Fiber Company has remarked on that same thing. When I opened my store she said it was a bunch of pictures of me in a slutty dress making naughty faces.

You can see how seriously I took that.

The Egg Salad Debaucle

For those of you who follow me on Facebook, Twitter, or Myspace (again, the accounts are linked) by now you may have seen a lone photo of the egg salad experiment gone horribly wrong.

I decided to go ahead and post a bit about what was done and how wrong it all went.

Following the recipe I found here. I first boiled some eggs and then put them in a bowl for 24 - 36 hours.

I hard boiled 6 eggs so that way 3 could make the egg salad and then I had 3 left for if I messed up - which in the end I felt I did.

The dying was pretty even but it would have gone better had I had the eggs surrounded in beet juice rather than (what I did) and pour it in and then cover exposed bits with actual beets (later leaving darker spots where I'd done just that).

After about 12 hours I went back in and rolled the eggs over so they entire egg would be dyed.

I started this with two things I wanted to do.
1) I wanted to substitute mayo with hummus

2) I felt egg salad could really use some bacon

Now for the half-assed instructions.

I got pretty much everything I planned to use out and ready. Amongst these items was a red-orange piece of Tupperware to mix everything in so that I wouldn't have to worry about beet juice dying something else.

I cut up three slices of bacon into relatively small pieces, making sure to feed a little bit of bacon fat to my sweet doggy.

While the bacon cooked,

I cut up the eggs.

Added the hummus. A few spices.

A little bit of champagne dill mustard.

And once it was finished, bacon. In the end it was SO visually unappealing that I didn't bother taking a photo.

The end result was a sour stomach and the rest being fed to the dog.

Well, that's all I've got for your at the moment. But I can tell you that I have another entry for the Om Nom Nomtionary coming soon.

Akanksha Fund Auction Cookie Scarf

For those of you who remember, this February, Pro-Portional Designs of Om Nom Nom Studios was featured on The Uniform Project. As I mentioned earlier in my blog about the scarf and its debut it is not only available in my shop but would also be up for auction before the end of the project.

Here is your chance!

There are 8 days and 22 hours left!

Happy Day After Easter

It's been a little bit since my last blog. I know for one of the last ones I was hoping to post new foodtoo goodness but that wasn't able to happen. My tattoo artist had to cancel. Sad face.

The other day I started working on a new egg salad recipe but it went horribly wrong pretty quickly and so now I have a lot of pictures with instructions on how to make a culinary abortion.

I actually ventured out of the house this past weekend. Here is the only picture from that night.

I sang karaoke for the first time because it was my friends birthday party. I went with "Gypsies, Tramps, and Theives" for two reasons:
1) it was one of very few songs that I knew (the rest was pretty much all country)
2) I. LOVE. CHER!

It was an experience - and one I hope not to have ever again. It made the hubby and my friend happy so I'm glad for that but the Om Nom Nom karaoke train will never again run.

Etsy Updates and Roadside America

This past Friday there was an Etsy update (as promised). And as I said, I have come up with something that I have yet to find anyplace else online. So I am happy to announce that Pro-Portional Designs of Om Nom Nom Studios is the home and creator of the foodie baby bib (maybe I'll have a cuter way to put it in the future.) There are now two new sections in the store, children and http://www.etsy.com/shop/ProPortional?section_id=6905791.

The other day I was out visiting some family and saw the pumpkin water tower in Circleville, Ohio (that I am sure i have seen before but never really thought about.)

While I was working on these pictures I wondered about other water towers similar to this and came across:

The watermelon water tower in Texas

The Peach water tower in Alabama

Not quite food but still delightful is the coffee pot water tower in California

There are others but I thought it was amusing.

Gerg

It's come to my attention that one of the items I will be offering is being made by someone else despite my secrecy. I'm a bit bummed but know that original ideas can be few and far between. As my father told me when I was a little kid - "anything you can think of - someone else has already thought." This sort of thing has kind of happened before and sadly it will happen again.

The main item I plan to offer is still safe but I may be moving up the release date from April 1st to some time in the next week. Stay tuned on that if you're as excited as I am.

What's Goin On.

It's been a minute since I last blogged. Apologies for that. Since the last post I have been one of the featured artists in the newest issue of the webzine, Cupcake Magazine. References to me directly are on the main page (my name is Tara) and inside the magazine on pages 12, 19, 21, 122, 123, and 203. This would be the second "big thing poppin'" I mentioned earlier.

Crazy things have apparently been going on here in Columbus. Here is something I found particularly upsetting. There has been a sixty-eight year old man putting his keys in his hand, making a fist, and punching seven and eight year old children in the face. Worse yet, he's been (proudly) at it for around nine months now.

Less crazy but still hectic has been my working nearly non-stop on some new things for spring. I'm excited and I hope you are too. What I have in store as my main items I have yet to see someplace else.

I did take a break today for fresh ink. My cupcake tattoo was a little lonely. Tonight I made a few additions. There is actually more to come on this. But here is where the tattoo stands for now.

To try to load you down less I'm only putting up one picture of it here (from the front). All of the pictures can be found on Om Nom Nom Studios Flickr page.

Thanks again so much to Quin of Skull & Rose Gallery on Pacemont in Columbus, Ohio. See you soon for the next session.
